SCCA Tom Nehl Classic XXIV National Race...
Roebling Road Raceway - 03/10/2002
It was beautiful March weather at Roebling Road...sunny with temperatures around 80 degrees. We decided to do this National level race because we knew the weather would not be as hot as the summer races. Michael Hooten and our son, Mark, were our great crew for the weekend.
The GT-1 field only mustered 4 entries: Philip Simms, Bill Bentley, Dave and Jimmy McAndrew. That was the qualifying order. Phil Simms had a really fast Corvette and Bentley was in his #46 Camaro. McAndrew was in a Corvette also, but was not nearly as quick as Simms.
The whole field for the race was only 20 cars. The race was intense and the top 3 GT-1 cars had a really "tight" race. Our 310 motor did not quite match up to the south Florida 310's and the finishing order for GT-1 was the same as the starting order. We finished in 3rd place.
It was a good weekend and good to be back at the track.
