SCCA Daytona Double SARRC Race Report...
Southeast Division South Atlantic Road Racing Championship – SARRC
Daytona International Speedway - August 3-4, 2002
Daytona in August is always hot! This weekend was no different with temperatures in the 90's. Except for the usual afternoon shower on Saturday, the sun was out in full force.
Dave's brother, John, flew down from Illinois to join the team. It was the first time he had come to one of our races. It is really cool to experience Daytona from the "inside".
We qualified in 2nd position for both races behind Robert Border's #11 orange Camaro. Both days the main competition was Borders, Dave Rankin in his white Camaro and Karl Keck in a yellow Corvette.
There were 53 cars on track for Saturday's race. Borders led start to finish. We battled with Rankin and finished 2nd. Karl Keck then took 3rd from Rankin, who finished 4th.
Attrition took its toll and only 47 cars came to the grid for Sunday's race. Once again Borders led for 5 laps, with Dave in the Olds in hot pursuit. Borders' camaro fell out of the race, which put us in 1st place. Karl Keck took 2nd place and Michael Seivers in a Monte Carlo finished 3rd. Hank Scott drove Rankin's camaro on Sunday and finished further back.
A 1st and a second at Daytona! There were no major problems with the car. It was good racing!
We were glad to be able to put on a good show for Dave's brother.
